B'nai B'rith is the international nongovernment association, accredited with the United Nations. It has representatives in UNESCO and the European Council in Strasbourg and it gathers Jews with different attitudes serving their communities they are living in in compliance with basic motto and values of B'nai B'rith: mercy, fraternal love and harmony. International registered office of the Association is in Washington; the European Office is in Bruselles and several ten thousand members in over 50 countries are organized in the so called lodges. B'nai B'rith is one of the largest and oldest Jewish organizations in the world – it was founded in 1843 in New York. Mission of the B'nai B'rith is to jointly improve harmony between communities, to strengthen communities in their fight against racial and religious intolerance, to promote Jewish culture and history and exercise solidarity actions.

B'nai B'rith Lodge in Zagreb was founded for the first time in 1926 and stopped to operate in 1940. It was reopened again in 1996, thanks to dr. Dragan Stern who became its president and remained its president until his death. It was named after the most credited longtime Zagreb rabbi Gavro Schwartz. Our goal is to strengthen friendship and cooperation of associations by various social and cultural programs, encourage social activities as well as to intensify relations of the B'nai B'rith Association in the region and Europe.
